Open North is a Canadian not-for-profit social enterprise based in Montreal, specializing in open data and the development of online tools that promote civic engagement, transparency and accountability. Open North works with governments, media and civil society to connect citizens and decision-makers and to provide citizens with the information and tools they need to track and influence the decision-making processes of government. Within a short period, Open North has established itself as a leader in open government and open data and online budget consultations.
Its highly-innovative and interactive budget consultation tool, Citizen Budget, is used by municipalities across Canada, the United States and internationally. Citizen Budget is open-source, scalable, customizable and highly-effective tool that is re-inventing the budget consultation sphere. Citizens enjoy the ease with which they can provide their opinions while cities and other organizations reap valuable feedback and improved stakeholder relationships. Customizable according to the needs of the organizations that use it, Citizen Budget allows them to consult their stakeholders on a variety of budgetary activities of their choice.
