At-sea Fisheries Observer
DUTIES :
- Observe, record and report information on commercial, experimental and exploratory fisheries;
- Collect at sea, on board Canadian fishing vessels, data on effort, fishing success and processing as well as data and biological samples;
- Promote adherence of fishers to Canadian fishing and environmental acts and regulations and produce detailed reports on observations.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS : Not prone to motion sickness, successful completion of secondary education, mobility/availability on short notice, available to be absent for long periods, be healthy, be legally entitled to work in Canada. Hold a driver’s licence and have full-time access to a car.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Experience/training in navigation and/or commercial fishing and/or biology and/or enforcement. Marine Emergency Duties and First Aid certifications.
WORKING CONDITIONS : Full-time on call positions available in Gaspé, Sept-Iles and Magdalen Islands. Observers can reside up to 300 km from their satellite office.
Availability starting in March 2016.
Salary: According to the collective agreement.
Technical training will be provided to selected applicants prior to deployment.
