Building Expert Engineer (expertise and forensic engineering)

Our client is an engineering consulting firm offering inspection, technical and legal expertise, and energy evaluation for private clients (residential, multi-dwelling, co-ownership, commercial) and public clients (cities and municipalities). They are currently looking for a building expert.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of upper management, your job will be to carry out various inspections and consultant functions concerning various situations affecting residential, co-owned, and small commercial buildings, prepare consultant reports, help solve contentious cases, and serve as an expert witness when needed.

• Meet with clients in order to observe problems and gather pertinent information;
• Determine the causes of the problem(s);
• Compile the necessary information to demonstrate the legitimacy of the problems and the consequences thereof;
• Complete the files using the method(s) that best respond to needs (analysis, laboratory, calculations, simulations, plans and drawings, research on codes and standards, etc.);
• Present a verbal report to the client of initial steps taken and impressions;
• Write up a report describing the contract, the methods used, and the corrective work required;
• Work with other consultants on analyzing, revising, and studying certain files and/or special projects;
• Act as a specialized technical advisor to a clientele consisting of lawyers, building managers, insurers, and adjusters;
• Take part in trials, when needed;
• Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, or other relevant education;
• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec;
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience working with buildings;
• Functionally bilingual (spoken and written French and English);
• Excellent written communication skills;
• Holder of a valid driver’s license and a vehicle owner;
• Proficient with standard computer-based tools (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc.);
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
