Building Project Manager

Our client, a significant construction contractor specializing in the construction of mid- and large-scale buildings in the commercial and industrial sectors (in the private sector), is currently looking for a project manager.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the CEO, your job will be to plan, organize, direct, and check on the work done at a variety of work sites through the foremen. In addition, you will help estimate the costs of each project for which the company is invited to bid.

• Ensure that quality standards are applied as stipulated in contract documents.
• Identify extra work as needed and communicate with the owner's representative to claim the costs thereof;
• Hire workers, with the help of the foreman;
• Take care of administrative responsibilities on-site: reports, notice of change and/or extra or anything else that comes up with a project;
• Develop the prevention program required by the CSST (workers' compensation commission) and ensure that it is applied at each construction site;
• Take part in a variety of meetings (administrative, technical, and coordination) regarding worksites;
• Negotiate final costs with subcontractors;
• Have extra work approved;
• Liaise between suppliers, subcontractors, and others who are working on projects you are overseeing;
• Prepare and take part in schedules coordinating the work of subcontractors and check on progress made;
• Ensure that construction sites are organised; define the needs for each site;
• Plan work crews;
• Prepare and review bids;
• Establish the construction schedule;
• Help develop bids and quotations;
• Bring projects to fruition, from the moment the contract is granted until final payment;

Required qualification

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, or architecture; or college diploma in civil engineering, or other relevant education;
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience;
• Knowledge of Québec construction laws and regulations;
• Proficiency with computer software such as Word, Excel, and MS Project.
