Coordinator (Health & Safety, Risk, and Environment)
Our client is an international company specializing in the development and manufacture of hygiene products for the North American retail and institutional markets. They are currently looking for a coordinator (health & safety, risk, and environment).
Nature of position
Under the supervision of the director of quality, risk, health and safety, and environment, your job will be to take leadership in developing organizational skills in order to achieve the desired safety results, to support the implementation of safety systems and standards, and to ensure that safety strategies, risk management, and environmental strategies are carried out.
- Manage training programs for first aid and first responders;
- Ensure that the fire-control system is functional;
- Periodically put into practice emergency measures;
- Coordinate evacuation procedures in the event of a fire or environmental disaster;
- Coordinate reintegration activities of employees following an accident;
- Coordinate periodical testing of the impact of noise and dust on employees;
- Ensure that a healthy working environment is provided for workers (noise, lighting, air, water, etc.);
- Build and update the health program in cooperation with the CLSC (local community service centre);
- Ensure that the Health & Safety management system meets the requirements of the OHSAS 18001 standard;
- Coordinate the activities of the Health & Safety committee;
- Take the lead in networking with other plants and create an environment where health assessments ensure that results are sustainable, as well as using internal and external references to push for ongoing improvement;
- Lead meetings regarding the analysis of machine safety, insulation of hazardous energy (lockout), safety of stairwells, stepladders, ladders, etc;
- Implement the health and safety road map, contribute to best practices and help workers integrate them;
- Train employees on the analysis of machine safety, job safety analysis, BeAware of Safety, basic elements of industrial hygiene, etc;
- Carry out accident investigations, including wasted time and close calls;
- Be present for daily NIL cleaning and maintenance on lines and equipment to analyze and communicate safety risks;
- Conduct safety audits and provide BOS (BeAware Of Safety) feedback;
- Coordinate training activities related to safety, risk management, and environment;
- Coordinate the full range of processes related to health and safety and to risk management, specifically prevention management and industrial hygiene, as well as emergency and environmental measures;
- Act as a resource person for business units for ongoing activities and for projects with safety, risk management, and environmental elements;
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or any other technical education and training combined with relevant experience;
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management;
- Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
- Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, AutoCad);
- Well-acquainted with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards;
- Knowledge of good manufacturing practices (an asset);
- Good communication skills both within the company and in outside transactions;
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.
