Director of Engineering

Our client, a young and dynamic company specialized in the design and fabrication of aluminum structural projects (pedestrian bridges, marine and architectural structures, etc.) and able to offer turnkey projects to engineering and architectural firms, general contractors, manufacturing companies and municipalities, is currently seeking for a Director of Engineering.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the president of the company, your main mandate will be to ensure the coordination of the engineering department, to develop and implement innovative engineering concepts in relation to the company's strategic orientations and to manage various projects. As such, you will :

• Manage human and operational resources to meet the company's obligations in the realization of projects ;
• See to the performance management, training, support the team in the realization of approval plans, manufacturing, installation and assembly on the SolidWorks software ;
• Assist the sales team in the preparation of bids by researching costs, analyzing quotes and planning projects in relation to human resources needs ;
• Assist the President with projects, schedules and deadlines in collaboration with the Operations Manager ;
• Aim for quality with suppliers and subcontractors, all in relation to deadlines and budgets ;
• Improve budgeted costs (profitability) and internally respect the engineering department hours charged to the project ;
• Carry out verifications of all welded structure designs (concept development, 3D structure modeling, calculation and dimensioning according to specifications and applicable standards, program a custom cutting and drilling machine, etc.) ;
• Ensure clear and direct communication between the engineering department and the production department (operation) ;
• Develop bids (cost research) and negotiate best value for money based on project objectives ;
• Support purchasing and write and issue special purchase orders ;
• Ensure the follow-up of the ISO 9001 standard for his department as well as the follow-up of the W47 and W59 standards for the welding operations ;
• Perform every other task compatible with your functions.

Required qualification

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or any other relevant training ;
• Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec ;
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the engineering field ;
• Knowledge of SolidWorks software ;
• Bilingualism in French and English (spoken and written) ;
• Be autonomous, while having a sense of teamwork ;
• Have a sense of responsibility, priorities and organization.
