Head Estimator

Our client is a manufacturing company specializing in elements of steel structures. They are currently looking for a head estimator.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Vice President, Sales and Marketing, and working closely with your colleagues in sales, engineering, supply, and production, your job will primarily consist of producing quotes, ensuring that they are precise and profitable in order to maximize the company's chances of being awarded contracts.

• Supervise a team of 3 people;
• Advise estimators as they carry out their duties;
• Develop the tools needed to prepare bids;
• Receive bidding documents directly from clients or from the sales team and determine if bids must be completed;
• Work closely with your sales, engineering, purchasing, and production colleagues in preparing bids;
• Ensure that projects start up smoothly upon awarding of contracts;
• Approve the order book;
• Stay in contact with clients and maintain a good relationship with them;
• Monitor ongoing projects in order to control costs and to be able to project gross profit margins;
• Develop a strategic plan for the department and take part in quarterly strategic follow-up meetings;
• Carry out any other task related to your duties.

Required qualification

• College diploma in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, or other relevant education;
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
• Experience with the steel industry (a significant asset);
• Able to read plans;
• Able to build business relationships;
• Knowledgeable of project management software (Strumis, Fabrol, etc.) and MS Office;
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French and English.
