Our client is a sizeable company specializing in the manufacture of pressed metal parts and metal stampings, with over 100 presses (up to 200 tonnes), as well as equipment for stamping, drawing, and deep drawing. They also have over 1500 dies suited for a multitude of processes. They are currently looking for a manager for their Tools & Maintenance Department.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of company management, your job will be to manage the tool room (maintain equipment, take part in the development and design of new tools) and the maintenance department (equipment and building) as well as providing technical support to the production team.

  • Ensure that workplace safety measures are respected.
  • Solve problems related to the work to be done and recommend measures aimed at improving productivity;
  • Contribute to the automation of processes and equipment as required;
  • Provide technical support to the production team for tool-related problems;
  • Develop and design new tools when necessary;
  • Estimate manufacturing costs for new equipment and modifications to existing equipment;
  • Establish working methods that allow for schedules to be respected and for work to be coordinated with other departments;
  • Help maintain and repair tools and manufacturing equipment, and maintain the building;
  • Supervise the team of toolmakers as well as mechanics / technicians, and plan out the work to be done;

Required qualification

  • Vocational diploma in machining techniques, college diploma in mechanical engineering, or other relevant education and training;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Considerable experience with metal stamping;
  • Experience with drawing and deep drawing is considered an asset;
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance;
  • Experience designing and manufacturing tools;
  • Expertise in managing a tool department is considered an asset.
