Our client is an international company specializing in the development, design, and manufacture of standard and custom optical components through plastic injection moulding using various types of polymer. They are currently looking for an optical development engineer to work with their engineering department in their Montréal area facilities.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the head of optics (based in France), your job will be to develop and design various optical systems primarily for the LED lighting sector.

  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.
  • Take part in meetings with the sales and optical development teams based in France (3 times a year - France);
  • Supervise optical performance trials;
  • Identify developments that are subject to intellectual property and prepare patent applications;
  • Perform a technology watch (materials, applications, and LED), in partnership with materials suppliers, LED manufacturers, and the sales team;
  • Guarantee project development timelines;
  • Develop the necessary devices and/or instruments for optical prototyping;
  • Establish measurement protocols in the production of the developed optical systems and provide optical technical support to the production team;
  • Take part in international trade shows and work with the sales and marketing teams to promote the company;
  • Visit clients with the company's representatives;
  • Provide technical support for the company's North American sales office;
  • Improve optical performance of existing products;
  • Develop custom and standard optical systems based on client's specifications;

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field (physics engineering, electrical engineering, etc.);
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in optical systems development, preferably in the field of LED lighting;
  • Skilled with CAD and photometry software;
  • Proficiency with TOPSOLID and TRACEPRO software is considered an asset;
  • Fluent in spoken and written French and English;
  • Able to work with colleagues who are far away and from a different culture; client-focused.
