Our client is a large-scale company specializing in the rolling and casting of metal products. They are currently looking for a purchaser.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the plant controller, your job will be to purchase products, equipment, and material (other than raw material), in order to maintain and support the production process at the best cost possible, while ensuring that the inventory management system is operated efficiently.

  • Carry out any other task related to your duties.
  • Study and understand market trends, as well as data useful for improving operations;
  • Check to make sure inventory levels are sufficient in order to avoid interruptions in operations or maintenance;
  • Gather data and analyze inventory reports and purchasing activities;
  • Support the organization's strategic goals with regards to inventory management;
  • Communicate with suppliers to make sure delivery deadlines are met;
  • Follow up on orders and give reminders as needed;
  • Negotiate certain contracts (e.g. snow removal);
  • Initiate, maintain, and support cost reductions;
  • Ensure that the material meets specifications;
  • Find suppliers for the required products;
  • Place orders, request and obtain quotes;
  • Negotiate with sellers and/or suppliers in order to get the best prices and delivery times;
  • Ensure that the required approvals are in place;
  • Be in charge of purchasing material (other than raw material), in order to support operations and maintenance so that we can fulfil our commitments towards our clients;

Required qualification

  • College diploma in a relevant field or other suitable education and training;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Significant experience in the manufacturing sector;
  • Bilingual (French and English);
  • Proficient with integrated business management software such as SAP;
  • Proficient with the MS Office suite (mainly Excel and Word);
  • Experience with purchasing for maintenance.
