Quality Technician

Our client, a leading manufacturer of steel products for the industrial sector is currently looking for a Quality Technician.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of management, your primary mandate will be to ensure that products are made by planned and systematic means in accordance with the established quality system and that finished products conform to product specifications and customer contract specifications. As such you will :

• Actively communicates with sales, customers and suppliers to help them understand technical requirements and develop processes as needed to achieve quality cost objectives ;
• Read and understand all specifications requested by customers to provide Manufacturing Instructions ;
• Approve manufacturing procedures, inspection and material test plans ;
• Follow up with customers and ensure that deviations from specifications are communicated to obtain approval of the final product ;
• Write welding procedure descriptions and qualifications ;
• Participate in the resolution of problems affecting the quality of our products ;
• Define and maintain quality standards ;
• Standardize and perfect work and quality control procedures related to the manufacturing process ;
• Identify, review and dispose of non-conforming products and implement corrective actions ;
• Review quality records for all products ;
• Update quality control, inspection and testing techniques ;
• Approve changes and new designs by performing design calculations according to manufacturing codes ;
• Participate in the definition of the technical content of projects (technical requirements, validation, risks) ;
• Evaluate the risks associated with the development and plan alternatives to meet the expected results of the project ;
• Ensure the regulatory watch and ensure the evolution of all related documentation ;
• Perform all other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

• College diploma (DEC or AEC) in metallurgical engineering (material control) or any other relevant training ;
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in a manufacturing environment ;
• Knowledge of CSA, ASME, CWB standards and welding processes, forging, castings, heat treatment and surface treatment (an asset) ;
• Functional bilingualism in French and English, both written and spoken ;
• Available for occasional outside travel.
