R&D Project Manager (Electronic Equipment)
Our client is a company specializing in the development and commercialization of innovative high tech products, with a client base in North America, Europe, and Australia. They are currently looking for an R&D Project Manager.
Nature of position
Under the supervision of the VP of R&D, your job will primarily consist of managing the development of new products. More precisely, you will be responsible for managing schedules, development budgets, and the quality of deliverables for projects assigned to you. You will coordinate the work of the R&D team assigned to your projects. In addition, you will be responsible for tracking work subcontracted to the company's development partners and for transferring projects to production with our manufacturing partners.
- Take part in feasibility studies and in developing "road maps" for products and technologies;
- Define the scope of development projects: establish the steps to be carried out, schedules, risks, and project budgets;
- Ensure that projects are developed quickly and meticulously in order to meet time, quality, and development cost expectations. More precisely, firmly control development timelines in order to respect agreed upon delivery dates;
- Participate in the choice of development partners and detail the requirements for subcontracted work;
- Meet specifications, particularly with regards to functionality, performance, and product manufacturing costs;
- Approve design documents, plans, and testing reports;
- Manage schedules and the execution of work carried out by suppliers involved in product development (industrial design, design and layout of PCBs, and other subcontracted development activities);
- Track schedules for pre-production and first mass production, and secure the transfer of products to manufacturing partners, including the supply of parts;
- Define product development processes and see to it that they are applied;
- Provide support for existing products;
- Develop software platforms that can be reused with various products;
- Matrix management of the team assigned to your projects: oversee the distribution of tasks, monitor work, ensure that quality requirements and schedules are respected;
- Transfer knowledge to your team members and team leaders for other areas (marketing, product marketing, materials, mechanics, QA, NPI, and purchasing);
- Participate in the preparation of budgets;
- Write up reports;
- Carry out any other task related to your duties.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or other relevant education;
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management of new technological project development;
- Bilingual (spoken and written French and English);
- Experience developing embedded systems or software development using the Agile method (an asset);
- Organizational, planning, and priority management skills, as well as an ability to mobilize project teams and to work under pressure;
- Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
