Research and Development Manager

Our client is a sizeable company, firmly established in Canada and the United States, that works in a variety of fields (pulp and paper, wood products, cardboard and packaging, renewable energy, wines and spirits, household and institutional paper products, and recycling). They are currently looking for a Research and Development Manager.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Taxation and Insurance Manager, your job will be to provide orientation, to plan, to organize, to direct, to control, and to evaluate research and development activities, primarily for the company's publication paper manufacturing facilities.

• Carry out any other task related to your duties.
• Coordinate the numerous objectives relating to products and planning;
• Develop, review, and modify operations and technical procedures for the service;
• Oversee the parameters and objectives of the team in order to reach said goals;
• Develop the skills of the Research and Development staff;
• Set goals and priorities for projects;
• Monitor plants in order to ensure that all requirements are respected;
• Document all phases of research and development;
• Provide support with regards to claims;
• Train personnel on all aspects of a claim;
• Coordinate production of all reports and declarations to be filed with the government;
• Manage the scientific research and experimental development service;

Required qualification

• PhD or master's degree in a relevant field or bachelor's degree combined with very strong experience in a research and development environment;
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
• Well-acquainted with government requirements;
• Experience applying for refunds from the government;
• Field experience with manufacturing;
• Able to manage professionals;
• Experience in the pulp and paper sector is considered an asset;
• Bilingual (spoken and written French and English);
• Strong negotiation skills and excellent communication skills;
• Able to deal with a range of people in the company's establishments;
• Available to travel for short periods on a regular basis.
