Studies and investigations engineer - Research and applications department - Asset management - Temporary position for 14 months
Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate and maintain various transport infrastructures, whose activities are divided into engineering, construction and maintenance operations is currently seeking, to continue improving the quality and efficiency of its services, a studies and investigations engineer.
Nature of position
Under the supervision of the research and development expertise director and the research and application expertise director, you will have as main mandate to actively collaborate in carrying out expertise, research and development studies, aimed at the implementation of innovative solutions based on in-depth expertise and on global and sustainable strategies. In particular, you will act as a resource person for technical and administrative support to managers by receiving and analyzing studies, reports, drawings and specifications. In addition, in collaboration with the senior engineer, you will participate in the integration and implementation of projects and technological development opportunities, aimed at improving the performance and sustainability of the infrastructures. As such, you will :
- Participate in carrying out structural expertise studies, particularly in relation to the condition and performance of structures ;
- Participate in the realization of the research and development program according to the needs and established recommendations ;
- Collaborate in carrying out a technological watch relating to sustainable construction techniques and materials ;
- Identify and propose research and development opportunities in relation to the field of maintenance and management of major infrastructures
- Prepare, in collaboration with the teams of the asset management department, the engineering department and the construction department, studies of opportunities, exploration and pre-feasibility in relation to the needs and requests resulting from various recommendations;
- Ensure the technical monitoring of research and development contracts, in collaboration with the various university partners ;
- Participate and provide technical assistance for the integration of pilot application projects into construction projects ;
- Take note of the studies prepared by the consultants and the university partners, make comments and recommendations, validate the measures to be taken and monitor their implementation ;
- Provide technical assistance to the expertise, research and application director, by providing relevant information in the preparation of various reports and documents and by ensuring the follow-up of projects and / or works ;
- Participate in the review and technical monitoring of certain studies relating to the structural capacity of bridge components, if applicable ;
- Participate in the development of guides, procedures and technical manuals ;
- Collaborate in updating and enriching the terms of reference and standard quotes of the company ;
- Identify technical issues and make recommendations for their resolution ;
- Responsible for administering all aspects and deliverables of contracts entrusted according to quality standards and strategic orientations while respecting the principles in force at the company ;
- Assist management in the preparation of budgets ;
- Prepare call for proposals documents for the award of contracts to consultants for professional design services, studies on structures of bridges, viaducts, tunnels and roads ;
- Prepare university research agreements, ensure the follow-up and execution of research projects ;
- Ensure good collaboration with the entire DRA team as well as with contractors and university partners ;
- Promote good collaboration between the contractors responsible for technical assistance and the project team (Construction and Engineering) ;
- Ensure compliance of contract execution with contract requirements (quality control) ;
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structures option ;
- Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Quebec (OIQ) ;
- Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the design, evaluation and repair of bridges or concrete and steel structures, with a minimum of 3 years in a consulting engineering firm ;
- Possess training certificates, issued by the Quebec Ministry of Transport, in the design, maintenance and inspection of structures (an asset) ;
- Good knowledge of current engineering and construction practices for bridges, tunnels, culverts, viaducts, walls, dams, pylons and / or any other engineering structure ;
- Be familiar with construction standards for roads and bridges and engineering structures (an asset) ;
- Demonstrated ability in monitoring and administering assigned contracts, including work evaluation, holding meetings and negotiating payments ;
- Be familiar with applicable and recognized construction safety standards ;
- Must be able to access structures through fixed or mobile devices; not be afraid of heights or tight spaces ;
- Know how to use the following software: MS Project, Excel, Access, Word, Outlook Internet Explorer ;
- Sense of organization, management of time and priorities, meeting deadlines ;
- Demonstrate initiative and autonomy ;
- Be resourceful, curious, creative and eager to gather information ;
- Ability to exercise good judgment in decision making ;
- Have strong interpersonal skills and very good ability to work in a team ;
- Good command in French and English, written and spoken.
